Cooperatives urged to play crucial role in food security
ITANAGAR, Nov 20: Secretary Planning Ankur Garg has called upon the stakeholders in the cooperative sector to play a leading role in ensuring food security and increasing agricultural productivity in the state. He also called upon cooperators to reorient and reform in tune with the needs of changing times.

He further opined that the cooperative movement even today retains its relevance as it is based on the strong fundamental s of ethics and on the goodness of human nature of the spirit of cooperation. Stressing on the cooperative sectors role in supporting Production, Credit and Marketing in the Agriculture sector, Garg asked Cooperators to update and trainup with modern methods and techniques in these areas.
On the role and initiatives of the State Govt. for ensuring food Security, proactive and speedy steps, particularly in the last two years have been taken by opening Regional FCI office in Naharlagun, including FCI depots in the districts., besides instituting vigilance , monitoring Committee, Checking pilferage. He However besides these administrative steps, we need the presence of Cooperatives and SHGs at the grassroot level, he added.

GM NABARD, Dr. B.G Mukhay Padhyay speaking as resourcperson , pointed out to the lack of institutional credit support for the farmers of the state for expanding food production for self sufficiency food security for the common people of the state. He urged the stakeholders particularly the cooperative Apex Bank for its support in providing credit support in boosting agricultural production of the state.
While, R.D Thungon, Joint RCS, pointed out to the lack of awareness of members of cooperative societies of its dutie and rights and urged the state cooperative union to conduct members awareness program . in order to motivate the younger generation effort is also on to introduce cooperative curriculum in Schools of the state.

Arunachalee girl found dead in Guwahati
ANSU seeks Govt intervention for impartial enquiry
ITANAGAR, Nov 20: All Nyishi Students Union (ANSU) today urged the state home minister to intervene and direct the Assam counterpart for constitution of impartial investigation into suspected murder of an Arunachalee girl in Guwahati. The union also demanded exemplary punishment to the culprits as per law.
ANSU in a release today claimed that Likha Yapi, a MCA student, was murdered at around 3 am on Nov 19 at Guwahati. The union further said the deceased was hanged in a ceiling fan after being brutally murdered.
When contacted police sources from Guwahati informed that the girl was found hanging inside a rented house at Sewali path under Hatigaon Police station. A murder case has been registered in this connection, some persons have been detained and interrogation is still going on, police sources said. It further said postmortem report of the deceased is yet to be received.
However, unconfirmed report said that two persons were arrested in connection with the murder case registered in the police station.

Such incident involving students studying in various educational institutions of the country may happen again if it is not controlled and checked properly, ANSU said adding time has come for state Government to send a strong message to all parents of various communities of the state to guide their children properly to pursue higher education in safe and secure educational institutions in the country. Nilly Welfare Society, Itanagar strongly condemned the suspected murder of late Likha Yapi, daughter of Likha Epo at Guwahati. The society deeply condoled the death of Late Yapi and conveyed deep sense of condolence to the bereaved family.
Meanwhile, the Society appealed to the state Chief Minister and Home Minister to take up the matter with Assam counterparts for proper investigation into the case. The society also demanded immediate arrest of all the accused involved in the gruesome incident and demanded stringent punishment to them.
Workers Board assures to provide ambulance for workers of Sagalee
SAGALEE, Nov 20: Arun-
The awareness campaign is conducted in order to provide social security and other welfare measures/facilities to the workers engaged in building and other construction activities in the state and to make them aware of the benefits provided under the workers Board. Addressing the gathering at Sagalee, he assured the workers of the state to pursue the higher authorities to enhance the existing housing loan from Rs. 50,000 to one lakh, marriage assistance from Rs. 2000 to Rs. 5,000 and maternity assistance Rs. 1000 to Rs. 3000 and, also assured to provide one ambulance and construct a labour shed for the workers of Sagalee as per the provisions of the Board.
The Chairman further, highlighting Board’s labourers benefits said, any registered labourer or workers can avail the housing loan being granted to workers of the state by the board, besides other benefits like medical assistance, tools advance, maternity assistance, housing loans, death benefits, Janashree Life insurance.
He appreciated PWD&UD Minister Nabam Tuki for initiating all round developments in and around Sagalee. While appreciating the present Govt, Sonam said the Congress Govt headed by Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu has fulfilled AAPWU’s genuine demands. Arunachal Labor Cooperative Federation is underway for its implementation, he disclosed.
Labour Commissioner cum Secretary of the workers board Ojing Darung briefed about the activities of the workers board. He advised the HoDs to extend their help to the workers in their registration procedure and educate the workers regarding the board’s welfare measures to the workers.
Deputy Labour Commissioner Dr. S.P Bhardwaj highlighting about the 1% cess collection and welfare measures being implemented by Board informed that 1% cess deposits is mandatory as per the Building & Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Cess Act. 1996. He also appreciated Board’s chairman Jalley Sonam for successful implementation of various welfare measures with short span of six months. ADC Sagalee Choku Talar appreciated Sonam for his hard work for the cause of the laborers, appealed the workers to register their names with the Board and also assured to extend all possible help during his stay at Sagalee.

Riders discover hidden Arunachal

ITANAGAR, Nov 20: Being part of the North East Riders Meet (NERM)-
Around 200 bikers from various parts of the country and neighbouring Bhutan participated in the meet. Boys as young as 18 and old man as old as 62 years took part in the meet. But the centre of attraction of this meet was lone lady rider Sheetal Ayyar, who had come all the way from Hyderabad. The most amazing part was that she herself rode her Royal Enfield bullet bike throughout this trip without any support from her pillion rider who was a male companion. Even the most treacherous road did not scare her ever and she truly enjoyed her stay in Arunachal. “Despite few minor hiccups I had really enjoyed this trip. Arunachal Pradesh is perhaps one of the most beautiful states of India and local tribal people are so warmth. When I go back to Hyderabad, I will become brand ambassador of Arunachal there,” told Sheetal.
The success of this event shows that Arunachalee citizen are now ready to welcome visitors with open arms. Being part of this meet, I got rare opportunity to closely observe the warm hospitality of Arunachalee citizen and at the same time also getting chance to visit some of the most beautiful places of Arunachal. Places like Daporijo, Aalo and Menchuka if promoted properly can become major tourist attraction in years to come. Especially Aalo to Menchuka route passing through the thorny road with breathtaking sights will surely tempt tourist from mainland India and abroad.
Barring few minor incidents, NERM 2010 smoothly sailed through and this should act as antidote for potentially strong but ailing tourism sector of Arunachal. Riders were accorded warm welcome wherever they stopped and I am sure all the participants must have carried wonderful memories along with them. But big question is how to translate such success into bigger success. For this, department of tourism government of Arunachal Pradesh, needs to take initiative. Despite amble potential tourism sector has not seen greener days in this state.
With Tawang virtually getting overexposed, in days to come unexplored places need to be encouraged as tourism destination. With not much of scope in industrial sector, tourism will be the biggest sector for job opportunities to unemployed Arunachalee youths in coming years when government job dries up.
ITANAGAR, Nov 20: The silver jubilee celebration of CRC Naharlagun started amidst festive fanfare on Nov 19.
The programme started with hoisting of the jubilee flag by the APCRCC President Sama Dodum, dedication of jubilee monolith by veteran missionary to the church Rev. Bilieu Shuya from Nagaland, lighting of jubilee torch by Rev. Dr. Takeng Taggu.
The special guest of the inaugural function Setong Sena, Finance Minister in his speech said church has a prominent role to play in developing the state and should be a supporting pillar in the functioning of the state government. He further said that we need to ponder on the Bible and educate especially the young people through church activities and this will lead to building of a harmonious and peaceful Arunachalee society. He further said ‘We should put our Christian efforts in bringing positive changes in the society’. He also donated a sum of Rs. 50,000 towards the celebration fund. A Jubilee Souvenir was also released by Setong Sena.
Toko Teki General Secretary Arunachal Christian Forum in his short speech said that jubilee is a time of reconciliation and jubilation. He emphasized on spiritual growth of the church. He also appealed one and all to shun corruption in elections and to discourage money game in elections.
Prominent Bible scholar Rev. Dr. D. L. Sanchu from Nagaland brought the jubilee message as speaker and said that on this occasion we should be reconciled with God and mankind. The colorful programme included artistic presentations by youth and women groups and a community feast.
The welcome speech was delivered by the chief patron of the organizing committee Er. Toko Jyoti. Beautiful choreographies were presented by Sunday school children and the youth wing of the church. The praise and worship team also mesmerized the audience. The brief history of the church was presented by Tenzin Lodo. The organizing committee also felicitated the pioneer missionaries and members with mementos and citations. A jubilee calendar was released by Evan. Tai Ete. Thousands of believers and leaders are participating in the celebration.
The closing day of the celebration will be graced by the local MLA Techi Kaso as special guest. The day will also mark installation of church bell, plantation of trees and fruit distribution in General Hospital Naharlagun and Under Trial Prison (UTP) at Naharlagun Police station.
ABK conducts awareness campaign
ITANAGAR, Nov 20: The Adi Baane Kebang (ABK) has successfully completed its maiden awareness campaign tour from 4th Nov to 11th Nov. The team lead by ABK President Ajin Apang visited Tato, Rumgong, Boleng, Komkar, Yingkiong Damro and Oyan.
The ABK team had a detail discussion on various social and other developmental activities with Panchayat leaders, Gaon Buras and locals of the respective areas. The communities while appreciating the effort of ABK for visiting the remote Adi inhabitant areas apprised them with various grievances like Education, Health, surface communication and other social and economical problems face by them.
The ABK on its part assured the public of these areas that their grievances shall be put before the elected representatives of the respective areas to take up with the Govt. The President apprised the people about the various initiatives taken up during its brief tenure like introduction of Adi as 3rd language in the schools of Adi inhabitant areas, restriction of hunting and fishing and restriction of ceremonial sacrifice of Mithuns during festivals/marriage etc.
At Yingkiong the President handed over a sum of Rs 50,000 to the people of Gossang village who lost their homes and livestock in recent land slide which also claims 7 (seven) lives. While addressing a huge gathering at Oyan the ABK President requested the Adi’s community to actively participate in its forthcoming General Conference cum election/selection.
Army adopt Koila Bhatti LP School at Bhalukpong
ITANAGAR, Nov 20: While performing their duty as sentinel of the Nation, Indian Army are also equally shouldering their social responsibility. Initially, 5 mountain brigade 24 JKLI Regiment adopted Koila Bhatti LP school of Bhalukpong and donated musical instruments, games and sport equipments and stationeries.
The 21 Punjab Regiment under 311 Mountain Brigade continued the service to the civilian populace by constructing two units toilets and one store room for the said school. Also, school compound level was raised by earth filling otherwise which was a kind of a pool during rainy season that kept students away.
Today Brigadier Jarken Gamlin, 311 Mountain Brigade, visited the school and formally handed over the assets created by them to the school authority in a small function attended by CO 21 Punjab Regiment, EAC, other officials and public of Bhalukpong.
Brigadier Gamlin, in his inspiring speech advised students to study hard to become a good citizen of the country. He also encouraged the teachers to dedicate themselves in creating the best technocrats, administrators, doctors and soldiers from the schools of rural areas of Arunachal. Further, he assured to provide other assistance for the schools in near future. He expressed his pleasure in meeting the young students and promised to meet them again.
EAC Bhalukpong, on behalf of local administration showered praises on the Indian army in general and particularly to Brigadier Gamlin for his yeomen service rendered to the civilian populace. He also requested teachers and students to take care of the school infrastructure properly provided by the army.

PASIGHAT, Nov 20: The Army Recruitment Office (ARO), Jorhat began its open recruitment rally at the general ground Pasighat from Nov 20 to 24 to the posts of soldier on general duty.
It is informed that altogether 1451 candidates appeared in the first day of recruitment test today. After physical, medical tests and documents verification, the eligible candidates will face written test on 28th November next, informed Colonel Baljeet Singh, Incharge recruitment (ARO, Jorhat). Singh also added, the result would be declared within three weeks of time.
Earlier, addressing the gathering of local officers, army personnel and participants/candidates on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Onit Panyang said there will be no scope for indiscipline in army life and sincerity, dedication and devotions are keys of success. IGNOU M.Ed. practical based workshop begins
ITANAGAR, Nov 20: The Seven Days Practical Based Workshop for M.Ed. Trainees has begun today. The inaugural session was addressed by Dr. B. G. Mukhopadhyay General Manager NABARD.
In his inaugural address, he stated that teacher should be open minded and ready to learn new things. He threw light on research, encouraged the trainees to do objective research. The cultural differences between countries, states open way for ethnographic studies. He further advocated for critical approach and action research to find solution for the pressing problems in the local settings. Science is falsifiable, truth is not absolute. It is always relative, what is true in one culture can be false in other culture. When paradigm changes, the truth also changes, hence 99% probability may not be true always, one percent non probability existing in a situation may some time pose problem. Hence objectivity and close observation is essential for any standard research study. He further encouraged the teacher trainees to under stand their role in value education, for that they should be a role model. Values cannot be taught whereas it can be modeled. Khandu grants 10 lakhs to Nari fire victims
PASIGHAT, Nov 20: Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu has sanctioned Rs 10 lakh as emergency relief for the Nari fire victims.
More than 20 houses were gutted in a devastating fire at Nari Market area on Nov 5. The state government headed by Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu immediately sanctioned Rs 10 lakhs for the fire victims. The amount was handed over by the Home Minister Toko Dabi to administration during his visit to Nari on Friday morning last.
Tasong Mibang (ADC Nari) and Kenyom Dabi (ZPM) said many houses were destroyed in the fire mishap. The financial assistance would help the fire victims to start life afresh, they said. The duo conveyed their thanks to the CM Khandu and HM Dabi for granting emergency grants to the victims. DIPRO

BWC office inaugurated
ITANAGAR, Nov 20: Capital MLA Techi Kaso today inaugurated the newly constructed permanent office building of Bazar Welfare Committee (BWC), Naharlagun. Attending the program as chief guest, Kaso hoped that setting up of new office will help BWC to work for welfare of business communities in better way. He also urged capital administration to maintain strict law and order so that business community feel secure.

NCP leader meets Nari fire victims
ITANAGAR, Nov 20: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Arunachal Pradesh vice president Karto Kaye has visited the fire accident site at Nari Market area in East Siang district recently and also met the fire victims.
Kaye informed that 22 houses were completely gutted in recent fire incident at Nari Market and properties worth crores of rupees have been gutted. He further said that district administration has provided Rs 2000 each to the fire victims as immediate relief.
The NCP leader interacted with the fire victims, Nari Township Market Committee members, Nari ADC and general public and discussed about safety measures and proper planning of the township.
While appreciating administration, public, teaching staff and students of Govt Higher Secondary School, Telam for providing urgent assistance to fire victims, the NCP leader appealed the Govt to provide adequate relief to the victims.

Eucharistic Procession postponed to Dec 12
Itanagar Nov 20: Bishop of Itanagar, Rt. Rev. Dr. John Thomas today called off the Eucharistic Procession which was scheduled on 21st November 2010.
He informed the General Secretary APCU, over the telephone that due to sudden and incessant rain the procession has been called off. The procession will be held on 12th December 2010 which will be Sunday. Except date, the venue and other things remains unchanged.
